Double Zero on the Crown: Lucas to Premiere Sample Headwear at the Championship Turn

Gondola News

DORNOCH — The first physical samples of two new Royal Dornoch Gondola Company hats will be on the counter, and on a head, at the Royal Dornoch Golf Club turn house on Wednesday 9 September 2026. Director of Crypto Currency Lucas Matusik will work the window that afternoon and, for a stretch between the incoming nines, the carpet.

Matusik confirmed he will rotate the pieces while serving the turn. "A turn house is already a runway," he said. "People arrive hungry, slightly weather-beaten, and in need of a decision. I am simply adding a third option: bacon roll, coffee, or the Wildcat."

The samples, brought north for the September visit, are the RDGC Retro Trucker Cap and the RDGC Wildcat Bucket Hat. The trucker is a structured six-panel mesh-back in a dozen colourways, embroidered with the laughing Double Zero skull in its top hat, the same 00 that already answers the telephone at Dornoch Station. The bucket is 100 percent cotton twill, navy or white, with the Wildcat up front: top hat, horseshoe, and the expression of an animal that has waited a long time to be taken seriously as golf attire.

Station Master Stan Pennington, reached on extension 00, declined to comment on whether the skull was a tribute. "If it fits, it is official," he said. "If it does not fit, it is still official. That is the beauty of one size."

Golfers who wish to handle the samples rather than merely admire them from the far side of a sausage roll may do so through the afternoon. Matusik's day on the ninth is otherwise fully booked: the Open Appointments job fair on Golf Road at 1pm, the turn itself, and the RDGC Crypto Exchange Session at The Eagle from 6pm, at which he is expected still to be wearing one of them.

CEO Dr. Gary Bethune welcomed the collection as a contribution to Highland transport. "Headwear is infrastructure," he said. "A well-chosen brim keeps the haar out of the eyes and the eyes on the cable. We have documented this extensively."

Both pieces are available now from the official outfitter. The Retro Trucker is $22. The Wildcat Bucket Hat is $20.50. All proceeds go straight back into the gondolas.

A second showing, if the first one sells, will be held at a location to be determined, weather and the incoming nine permitting.
